Matt Kaufax

Features Reporter

If there’s an off-the-beaten-path type of attraction, person, or phenomenon in the D.C. area that you think more people should know about, Matt is your guy. As the features reporter for WTOP, he’s always on the hunt for stories that provide a unique local flavor鈥攁 slice of life, if you will鈥攐f our thriving nation’s capital.

Born in the District and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, Matt believes every D.C. Metro area community has a story to tell and wants you to help him tell it! The more off the grid (or completely off the wall!) the idea is, the better.

For Matt, a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Fairfax County, and alumnus of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, it’s an honor and privilege to talk about all things fun and interesting on the airwaves of a station he listened to growing up.

Before joining WTOP as a freelance reporter/anchor in March 2023, Matt spent five and a half years on-air in television news. He worked in Augusta, Georgia (home of the Masters) as a reporter and then in Greenville, South Carolina, where he was both an anchor and reporter.

Matt is a huge Syracuse Orange fan and an avid watcher of basketball. He played for his high school hoops team and was also a member of the varsity tennis and cross-country teams.

In addition to his work in the field of news, Matt does other freelance work in film and is a bit of a cinephile. He鈥檚 part of the Film at Lincoln Center鈥檚 New Wave membership program for the historic NYC theater and loves to catch new movies in D.C. at Suns Cinema, E Street, the Avalon, and Alamo Drafthouse. He tries to attend film screenings and festivals as often as he can.
